Minnesota State Bar Association

The Minnesota State Bar Association is a professional association of lawyers, judges, and other legal practitioners, such as clerks, registrars, and paralegals. The MSBA is one of the oldest state bar associations in the United States. The association was organized in 1883 and claims a membership of nearly 16,000 legal professionals.[1] While some states require membership in the state bar to practice in the jurisdiction, Minnesota does not require membership. Membership is purely voluntary.

Purposes

State bar associations (as well as national and local associations) are the means by which the legal profession regulates itself. See American Bar Association.

The MSBA states the following goals:

The officer is elected as Secretary, then advances to Treasurer, and then President-Elect, and eventually President.[2] As of October 2009, the current officers are:

The directors of the MSBA, under the guidance of the executive director, have the responsibility of carrying out the day-to-day operations of the association. The directors are responsible for supervising staff and setting and communicating goals and standards.
